Frequently Asked Questions

We regularly receive the same questions.

This page lists those questions and (links to) the answers.

Nothing!
We believe it’s important that the diapers are recycled, so our volunteers pick them up free of charge.

Fill in your details on our Registration Page .
We will contact you about whether your address fits a pickup route.

In some neighborhoods we have distributed diaper bags.
Fill in your details on the Pickup Page .
We will contact you when the bags in your area are collected.

The current area where diapers are collected:

  • Leiden
  • Leiderdorp
  • Voorschoten
  • Zoeterwoude-Rijndijk

We are looking into expanding to:

  • Oegstgeest
  • Warmond
  • Zoeterwoude-Dorp

We can also be found at various events.

The diapers are collected by cargo bike, so for now we unfortunately have to limit ourselves to the area above (an exception can be made for events).

We are also seeing more and more similar initiatives appear.
If you live in another region where a comparable initiative is known, we can try to put you in touch with each other!

We use the diaper bags from Luierrecycling Nederland. These are available at Stopmijnafval .
Besides being a hygienic solution, you also support the nationwide Luierrecycling Nederland project.

These bags have a subtle fresh scent. That means unpleasant smells from the diaper bin are a thing of the past. The bags have a drawstring, so they are easy and hygienic to remove and tie shut.

Color

The diaper bags are turquoise because turquoise is the color used in the Netherlands for this type of waste.

Scented + drawstring

This diaper bag

  • is scented to prevent odor nuisance. This is especially important indoors and outdoors during the warm summer months.
  • has a special drawstring so the diaper bag can be closed easily and securely.
  • can be recycled along with the diapers in the diaper recycling process.

One size

30 liters. For small to medium waste bins. Dimensions: 60 x 55 cm. The bag has a universal size (30 liters), so it can be used in any type of diaper bin (for example Diaper Champ).

Many bags are suitable, but they do have to meet certain requirements.
The Bags Page has an overview with examples of which bags you can and cannot use.

We mainly use DiaperChamp diaper pails.

Our advice is to use the pails indoors.
Our experience is that the Classic pails and the (non-hands-free) One pails can also be used outdoors, but then place them under a shelter.
The sealing ring can also wear out faster due to the weather.

We use Ikea Klämtare boxes to collect diaper bags.
These boxes are rain-resistant and can stay outdoors.

On the Ikea website the boxes are available in a set of 2.
In the store they are sold individually; please note that the box and the lid are two separate packages!

Yes, wet wipes and small diaper bags can be recycled with the diapers and may also go in the diaper bag.

Other waste, such as toilet rolls, sanitary pads, tampons, tubes, jars, packaging, etc., CANNOT be recycled with the diapers and therefore must NOT go in the diaper bag!
If your diaper bag contains this kind of waste, the bag will be rejected and will not be recycled!

The diapers we collect are gathered in a diaper container.
The diaper container is emptied weekly by a truck (garbage truck).
The truck takes the diapers to A.R.N. in Nijmegen (Weurt), where they are recycled into plastic, biogas and fertilizer.

A new website is coming soon, and it will include a donation option.

Want to support us already?
Donate Ikea Klämtare outdoor boxes or DiaperChamp diaper pails.
We can then lend these boxes and pails to participants!

Donate diapers
We also help families who are having a harder time.
Has your little one become potty trained and/or grown out of his/her diapers?
Collect the unused diapers in a separate bag and let us know that these diapers can go to another family!

Sign up as a collector.
Do you have a cargo bike and can you collect diapers from a number of addresses each week and take them to a diaper container?
Then get in touch with us via the Contact Page .

Set up collection pools.
If you and your neighborhood want to take part together, you can form a pool:
Each week someone takes their own household’s diapers plus those of the other households in the pool.
Agree clearly with each other who collects the diapers when.
Let us know via the Contact Page which addresses are in your pool.
